History

The museum was founded with the collection of Jacob and Marianne Kautsch. In 1890, they had collected a huge amount of folklore and historic local objects, so that they could set up an exhibition in a school building (the "Bürgerschule"). In 1895, the collection formed the basis for the municipal museum, which was first established in the city hall. In 1898, the museum moved to a recently completed building (the "Industriehalle"). Since 1913, the museum has been located in the beautiful 17th century building, the "Innerberger Stadel", and the neighboring city gate, the "Neutor".
