Archival history
In 2018 the research library of the municipal museum was handed over to the City Archive. The big amount of the books made it necessary to move them into a seperate building. In 2021 the research library of the City Archive together with books donated by the archive's support association where added to the collection. On September 1st 2022 the Library for Regional History was opened to the public.
Scope and content
History of Steyr and the iron district (region "Eisenwurzen") in upper and lower austria, also mining and iron industry, crafts, industry, technology and transportation, social and economic history, folklore, historic auxiliary sciences (numismatics, heraldry, genealogy ...), austrian history from prehistory to contemporary history
Accruals
Occasional additions of newly published literature and donations.

Most of the manuscripts from the 16th to the 19th century are in bad physical condition and therefore separated from the public area (no inventory available)
